Where do you find mathematicians? Anywhere people use mathematics! Professional football? Architecture? Nursing? Spying? Acting? Knitting? Fields like physics and engineering are the more obvious choices but mathematics appears almost everywhere. Students often think, “I’m never going to use this” about the mathematics that we teach. The disconnect is not as much in the math itself as in how we teach it and talk about it in school.

In this edWebinar, join Sara Delano Moore, Ph.D., Director of Professional Learning at ORIGO Education, to learn about mathematics and mathematicians in expected and unexpected places. The more we can show students mathematics in the real world (in areas they’re interested in and areas they don’t yet know about), the more meaningful math class becomes. The more we can show students people they know and are interested in using mathematics, the more enjoyable math class becomes.

This edWebinar will be of interest to K-8 teachers and librarians. There will be time to get your questions answered at the end of Sara’s presentation.
