Early Childhood Primary Teacher Positions – Full-Time Fort Wayne, IN

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Center Director, the Early Childhood Primary Teacher plans and provides developmental care for children in the child care center assisting each child to develop a positive self-concept and reach his or her full potential.

 

Employee’s work is performed in an early childhood classroom within a child center setting.  Ability to communicate orally and in writing.

 

Employee performs duties according to agency program and guidelines.  Employee is required to handle a variety of difficult tasks in order to effectively meet job requirements.

 

Employee maintains frequent contact with center staff, children, parents, families, program site personnel and the public for the purpose of exchanging information necessary for effective operation of the center.

 

Employee is expected to make substantial contributions to Early Childhood Alliance’s mission by planning and providing developmental care for children in the child care center.  Employee’s work is periodically reviewed by the Center Site Manager for adherence to and attainment of objectives.

 

Essential Functions

  • Provides a safe and secure environment in which children can be curious, active, and encouraged toward self-discipline, self-motivation and self-actualization.
  • Develops a warm, caring relationship with each child and parent in his or her group that is based on mutual respect and serves as a model to the child for his/her relationship with others.
  • Guides the child’s behavior in positive ways that support total growth, development and promotes self-esteem.
  • Assesses child’s development and plans and implements developmentally sequential activities in which each child can experience success and build confidence in his or her own abilities and worth.
  • Works cooperatively with families scheduling conferences, supporting them in providing what is best for their children.
  • Interacts frequently with children; showing interest, respect, and is responsive and available in meeting their needs.
  • Develops cooperative working relationships and supports other staff members in achieving center goals.
  • Provides for the daily physical needs of the children and charts care as needed.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly to frequently required to lift (up to 45 lbs.), and bend, stoop, stretch, squat, push and pull, sit and walk, and talk and hear in order to communicate to children at the child’s eye level, to interact with children and to pick up the toys and equipment from the floor. The employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must perceive the nature of sounds by the ear.
  • Uses materials and equipment responsibly, and maintains a clean, safe environment.
  • Follows all licensing regulations, policies, and procedures of the agency.

Minimum Requirements

  • 18 years of age or older and a minimum of a high school diploma or its equivalent; course work or training in early childhood education.
  • Must successfully complete the requirements for Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) within 3 years of hire date. Employees with an Associates or Bachelor’s degree in early childhood or a related field will be exempt from this requirement.

Job Knowledge and Skills

  • Requires a general knowledge of child development and the support and guidance necessary to fulfill each child’s developmental needs.
  • Requires analytical and organizational skills to plan and implement developmental activities for children.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with parents, children, and childcare associates.
  • Ability to use technology for record keeping, anecdotal, planning and communication.
